About
me

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination."
- Albert Einstein
Mechanical Engineer. Artist. Activist.
Those three titles encapsulate nearly every aspect of my values in life and are a window into who I am as a person. I think like an engineer, I see the world like an artist, and I advocate for people and causes that I find important.
I knew I wanted to be an engineer after I saw Iron Man back in 2008. There had been many indications in my life that engineering would be a career path for me but when I came out of that movie I felt overwhelming inspiration. I wanted to be able to translate technology into real life just like Tony Stark and make a change in the world for the better. My parents looked at me and asked if I had ever considered becoming an engineer. That was the first time I ever had a word for what I wanted to be - engineer. I've never looked back.
Since then I've worked hard to follow my passions. I was involved in FIRST Robotics for four years in high school and while there got my hands involved with everything I could. Electrical, pneumatics, fabrication, design, programming, and much more. By my fourth year I had enough experience that I was trusted to teach other students the ropes of various processes and was given urgent tasks such as building a functioning pneumatic system in under an hour. Once leaving high school I enrolled in community college and eventually left for Washington State University (WSU) to study Mechanical Engineering. During my time at WSU I've maintained a 3.5 or above GPA and taken electives with a focus on robotics such as Mechatronics and Intro to Robotics and AI. I've also worked in the Spark Design Studio as a Technician which sees me handling additive manufacturing, CNC, and other fabrication tasks for customers on the daily.
Aside from engineering I am also an accomplished artist. I have proficiency not only in 2D illustration, which I've been practicing since 2010, but also 3D modeling and rendering. I love integrating aesthetics with my work where appropriate and have a good eye for design. Aside from the handful of art classes I have taken I also have been commissioned by a handful of people over the years which means I know how to actualize the vision of another person and how to communicate during that process. Programs I am proficient in include SolidWorks, Photoshop, Blender, InDesign, Illustrator, and 3DS Max.
Finally, I pride myself on being an advocate for causes that matter to me. I not only minored in Queer Studies to broaden my horizons but also because I thought it was important to learn the history of oppression and resistance amongst the LGBTQ+ community. In addition, while I was involved with FIRST I went out of my way to recruit women into my team and make them feel safe. I achieved this by being a role model and making sure they all felt respected by their peers. When I joined I was the second woman on the team but by the time I left over one-third of the team were women. I am extremely proud of this fact as well as what I did to facilitate that growth.
